Gout is a type of arthritis that causes sudden joint inflammation,usually in a single joint. Severe gout can sometimes affect many joints at once. This is known as polyarticular gout.

The characteristic symptoms and signs of gout are

  • Sudden onset of joint pain,
  • Joint swelling,
  • Heat in the affected area, and
  • Joint redness.

CAUSES OF GOUT

Gout is caused by too much uric acid in the bloodstream and accumulation of uric acid crystals in tissues of the body. Uric acid crystal deposits in the joint cause inflammation of the joint leading to pain,redness, heat, and swelling.

  • Genetics
  • Obesity
  • Certain medications such as diuretics (water pills)
  • Chronic decreased kidney function
